Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau sheltered in a Kyiv metro station on October 28 while Russian forces launched aerial attacks.
Coster-Waldau, known for his role as Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, rode the subway with other residents to escape the air raid. He rested on a fold-out bed while waiting for the all-clear signal and took selfies with passengers. The visit also included a stop at a bar in the Podilskyi district. Veta Zadorozhnaya, a user on the social platform Threads, posted a photo taken with the actor at that location. She described him as a pleasant and handsome man but noted that a quick departure prevented a conversation.
Coster-Waldau has served as a UN Goodwill Ambassador since 2016. In that role, he has focused on raising awareness of climate change and promoting gender equality. In February 2026, he participated in an event organized by the Danish Cultural Institute. During that gathering, he read works by Ukrainian authors alongside other participants.
The specific reason for his current trip to Kyiv has not been announced. The visit follows a similar trip by Angelina Jolie in August. Jolie met with Ukrainian children and families of soldiers who had returned from captivity during her stay.
