A panel on wildfire patterns and fire weather is set for noon to 1:15 p.m. on Dec. 2, 2026 at The Incubator on the second floor of Albertsons Library. Registration is required, seating is limited, and free lunch will be served. The event is hosted by the Boise State University School of the Environment and the Division of Research and Economic Development, in collaboration with The Conversation U.S.
Stacy Morford, an editor at The Conversation, will moderate the discussion. Jennifer Pierce and Alejandro Flores, both professors in the Department of Geosciences, sit on the panel alongside Nick Nauslar, Fire Science and Operations Officer at the National Weather Service Fire Testbed; Stephen Philmore, Senior Director of Fire Programs at BurnBot; and Aaron Hummel, Fire Chief of the Boise Fire Department.
Scheduled topics include changing wildfire patterns, fire weather, how shifting hydroclimate conditions affect fire risk and firefighters' work, and the factors behind fire prevalence and severity.
The event is supported by Boise State's TRANSFORM project, a four-year, $6 million grant from the National Science Foundation's Accelerating Research Translation program. Questions about the panel can be directed to briannephillips@boisestate.edu.
