President Donald Trump announced a financial incentive for citizens who identify election irregularities.

On Monday, the president stated that he would pay $1 million to anyone who reports voter fraud in upcoming or past elections. He specified on the Truth Social platform that the payment would be issued upon the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for the fraud.

The administration has not detailed the source of these funds. A White House spokesperson directed media inquiries to Trump’s social media post, offering no additional clarification on the budgetary mechanics.

This reward structure contrasts with established data on voting integrity. While irregularities such as mail ballot errors or ballots cast for deceased relatives occur, they are infrequent. The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, has tracked more than 1,600 instances of voter fraud over the last 40 years. This total represents a small percentage of all votes cast during that era.

Trump has long argued that widespread fraud cost him the 2020 presidential election. His recent actions suggest an intensified focus on the upcoming midterms. His administration has allocated resources to identify noncitizens on state voter rolls. The Department of Justice recently sued California officials to separate mail ballots allegedly sent to potential noncitizens. In a separate action last week, the Justice Department sued Alaska officials at Trump’s request to block the certification of a Senate race if Republican Senator Dan Sullivan loses.

Judicial review has checked some of the president’s election-related initiatives. Courts have previously blocked sweeping changes to mail voting and mandates for documentary proof of citizenship. Trump’s new bounty program follows his launch of a separate $25 million government fraud whistleblower initiative. In that program, the president said he would personally determine the winner of the prize.

The $1 million offer is part of a series of financial pledges made during his campaign trail appearances. Trump has also promised $5,000 payments to Americans if Republicans maintain control of Congress. He has not yet specified how those payments would be funded.
