Valley Regional Transit riders near Micron's Boise campus can expect a new on-demand shuttle option and expanded regional bus service early next year under a partnership announced Monday between VRT and Micron. The two organizations said the collaboration will add a new bus route, additional Park & Ride locations across the Treasure Valley, and a VRT On-Demand service near Micron's campus.
The deal commits $11.6 million over five years. VRT CEO Elaine Clegg said Micron's investment will expand regional bus services and introduce VRT On-Demand in Boise. "As congestion continues to increase, transit provides a proven alternative that can reduce the number of vehicles on the road," Clegg said. She said riders will see Micron-supported vehicles and services on the road early next year.
VRT and Micron said they will build the transportation solution together to support employee mobility while delivering benefits to the community at large. The on-demand service will operate near Micron's Boise campus. Park & Ride locations will be added across the Treasure Valley, and a new regional bus route will be established.
Micron is expanding its operations in Idaho, and the company said transportation access remains a component of connecting current and future employees to opportunity. VRT's Route 42 bus 701 was running 14 minutes behind schedule at 2:12 PM on Monday.
Clegg said getting people to work, school, and everyday destinations is how a growing region stays connected. VRT provides regional transit service across the Treasure Valley.
