Two separate construction projects are currently reshaping travel patterns along McMillan Road in Meridian. The Ada County Highway District is upgrading the intersection with McDermott Avenue, while the City of Meridian completes the final phase of its sewer infrastructure expansion. These simultaneous efforts have altered traffic flow and pedestrian access in the area.

At the McMillan and McDermott intersection, workers are installing a new traffic signal and adding dedicated left-turn lanes. The project aims to improve traffic flow and provide safer conditions for pedestrians. Matt Degan, a representative for the district, stated that the pedestrian improvements will make it safer for people to cross the street. The Ada County Highway District expects to finish these specific improvements in early November.

Further west on McMillan Road, a different set of changes is underway. The City of Meridian is closing a stretch of the road to complete the third and final phase of the Can Ada Lift Station project. This infrastructure work is designed to expand the city's sewer capacity to accommodate recent residential growth. The road remains open at McDermott but has lane restrictions, while the farther west section is fully closed for the sewer work. The city expects this phase to wrap up by December 4.

Residents in the neighborhood have observed rapid development in recent years. Fred Roberts, who has lived in the area for two years, noted that two entire neighborhoods have appeared since he moved in. He described the growth as happening in "leaps and bounds." His wife, Mary Roberts, agreed, adding that a whole neighborhood sprang up during their short residency.

The Roberts family views the construction as a temporary inconvenience worth the long-term benefits. Fred Roberts said he is glad the city is addressing the roads to keep up with the expansion. He pointed out that a crosswalk that was previously just grass and weeds is now being improved. Mary Roberts added that the new development has helped neighbors get to know each other better, creating a stronger sense of community.

The construction activity reflects the city's effort to stay ahead of infrastructure needs. The Can Ada Lift Station project is the third phase of a larger effort to handle the increased volume of residents in Meridian. As the projects near completion, the physical changes to the road and sidewalk infrastructure will be finalized, restoring standard traffic patterns to the area.

Drivers should expect continued disruptions until the early November deadline for the intersection work. The sewer project closure will remain in effect until the December 4 target date. Both agencies have set these timelines to manage the workload and minimize long-term impacts on local traffic.
