Residents of Boise can expect a new bronze statue on the Boise State University campus this weekend. The university announced on Tuesday that the sculpture honoring Kellen Moore will be unveiled during the upcoming home football game.
Moore played quarterback for the Broncos from 2008 to 2011. During his four seasons in Boise, he established himself as the winningest quarterback in the history of college football. He wore number 11, a detail the university has already incorporated into the stadium design by painting the 11-yard marker on the blue turf orange.
The new statue marks the latest in a series of recognitions for Moore, who has since moved into professional coaching. He currently serves as the head coach for the New Orleans Saints in the National Football League. Despite his new role in the NFL, the university confirmed he will return to Boise for the ceremony.
The announcement was made through the Boise State football program's Instagram account. The university noted that Moore is expected to be in town for the weekend, coinciding with the team's home game. Fans have long celebrated Moore's legacy, including his near-miss for the Heisman Trophy during his playing days.
The statue joins the orange 11-yard line as a permanent tribute to the former player. The unveiling will take place this weekend, allowing local fans to see the physical representation of one of the program's most recognized alumni. Moore's return brings together his past as a Boise State standout and his current status as a professional head coach in a single event on campus.
