The senior passer leads the Broncos to a 5-1 record with a perfect turnover ratio and elite efficiency metrics.

Maddux Madsen has completed 110 of 166 pass attempts for 1,296 yards and 13 touchdowns without an interception through six games. The fifth-year senior is one of only two FBS quarterbacks to reach 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns without a turnover this season. Josh Hoover of Indiana is the only other player with that statistical profile.
Madsen's performance has propelled the Broncos to a 5-1 overall record and a 2-0 mark in Pac-12 play. He ranks third among 58 FBS quarterbacks in efficiency rating on fourth-down passes. This metric includes only players who attempted at least five passes on fourth down this season.
Head coach Spencer Danielson praised the quarterback's leadership and on-field decision-making. Danielson said Madsen is one of the greatest leaders and best teammates he has encountered. The coach noted that Madsen has produced a body of work that places him at the highest level of play.
Madsen has started 24 games and won 19 of them since taking over as the primary starter in 2024. He has never lost a game on The Blue if he finishes it. His career totals include 7,882 passing yards, 617 completions, and 63 touchdowns. These figures place him sixth or seventh in Boise State history in several categories.
The quarterback from Lehi, Utah, committed to Boise State in July 2021. He was a three-star recruit from American Fork High School. In high school, Madsen also played baseball, leading Lehi to its first state championship since 1981. He hit .455 with four home runs and 42 runs batted in as an infielder that spring.
Running back Sire Gaines described Madsen as a true quarterback who leads by example. Gaines said the team will support Madsen regardless of outside opinions. Madsen aims to join the ranks of past Boise State quarterbacks such as Kellen Moore and Brett Rypien. He wants to leave the program without regrets and with conference victories.
Madsen was named a finalist for the Campbell Trophy and the Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award earlier this week. He was also placed on preseason watchlists for the Maxwell, Walter Camp, and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Awards. The Broncos are currently ranked No. 21 nationally.
The team is preparing for a matchup against Washington State in Pullman on Oct. 24. This game follows a bye week for Boise State. Madsen seeks to continue his current season to help the Broncos pursue a third straight conference title.
