Federal prosecutors have set a December 29 trial date for Kevin Cathcart, a 57-year-old Waterford resident and volunteer youth sports official accused of possessing and distributing child pornography.
The criminal complaint details that Cathcart allegedly sent videos of adult men abusing young boys to an undercover officer several months before his October 15 arrest by an FBI special agent. He has entered a plea of not guilty in the Eastern District of Michigan.
Cathcart serves as an umpire for the Waterford Coaches Association and volunteers in local youth hockey. According to the complaint, a witness connected to a separate investigation told the FBI they had met Cathcart for sex, watched child pornography together, and observed him using Snapchat live calls with teens. The witness also stated that Cathcart claimed to have sex with children.
The FBI further reviewed a chat log on a dating website where the complaint says Cathcart admitted to being a pedophile and sexually attracted to children. Homeland Security Investigations also participated in the investigation.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated it knows of no allegations of misconduct arising from Cathcart's roles as an umpire or in youth hockey. Judge Stephen Murphy will preside over the case. Cathcart has until December 3 to change his not guilty plea if he chooses to do so.
