The Treasure Valley Family YMCA hosted its annual Halloween Run on Saturday morning at Ann Morrison Park in Boise. The event drew hundreds of runners, walkers, and families who gathered under a sunny sky as autumn foliage turned yellow, orange, and red across the park.

Participants arrived in a wide variety of costumes. The crowd included people dressed as Superman, Minions, and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Giant inflatable snail costumes were also a common sight, drawing attention for their size and commitment to the theme.

The event was open to all fitness levels. Experienced runners lined up to race, while others pushed strollers or walked with children. The mix of participants created a community atmosphere focused on activity and family time rather than competitive speed.

Runners started the event beneath a large YMCA arch. The gathering marked the highlight of the YMCA’s seasonal running series for the fall. The organization cited the event as a way for residents to get outside and spend time with friends and family.

The YMCA will hold two more community runs in 2026. The next event is the Thanksgiving Leftovers Fun Run, scheduled for Saturday, November 28, at Ann Morrison Park. The event begins at 10 a.m. and features a one-mile run or walk as well as a 5K race.

Participants in the Thanksgiving event will receive leftover race merchandise from previous years. Items include shirts, hats, and medals. The YMCA will distribute these items on a first-come, first-served basis.

The final event in the series is the YMCA Christmas Run, set for Saturday, December 19, at Boise High School. This race offers three different distances: a one-mile Reindeer Dash, a two-mile run or walk, and a six-mile run or walk.

The one-mile event begins at 10 a.m. The two-mile and six-mile events start at 10:15 a.m. Costumes are encouraged for this event as well, with participants expected to wear Santa hats, elf outfits, reindeer gear, and holiday sweaters.

Santa Claus will appear at the Christmas Run to help start the festivities. The event serves as a community tradition for residents to celebrate the holiday season through running and walking. The YMCA invites both serious athletes and casual participants to join the races.
