A senior living facility in Louisville, Kentucky, is the site of a violent domestic incident that ended in two arrests. Bert Morris, 92, was taken into custody on Wednesday after officers responded to a report of domestic violence. Police discovered Morris pinching his wife’s nose while holding a plastic bag over her face. The arrest citation describes the bag sealing around the woman’s mouth and tightening around her head during the struggle.
Terrence Gabie, 41, the victim’s designated caretaker, was also arrested on Wednesday. Court documents state that Gabie filmed a 71-second video of the event rather than assisting the woman. Another nurse at the facility intervened to separate Morris from his wife. The victim was transported to a local hospital and arrived unconscious. Gabie now faces charges of knowingly abusing or neglecting an adult.
According to the citation, Morris told officers that his wife “needed to die.” He was charged with attempted murder and first-degree strangulation. Morris entered a not guilty plea during a court appearance on Thursday. His bond was lowered from $250,000 to $150,000. Gabie also pleaded not guilty on Thursday. His bond was set at $10,000, and he was released on a personal recognizance bond.
Both defendants are scheduled to return to the courtroom on November 6. That date has been set for their preliminary hearings.
