Boise State football honored Kellen Moore with a permanent bronze statue on Halloween night. The sculpture was unveiled during halftime while the Broncos played Texas State at Albertsons Stadium. The team won the game by one point in rainy conditions.
The 11-foot tall figure stands outside the northwest corner of the stadium near Entry One Plaza and the Bleymaier Football Center. Its height matches Moore’s jersey number, 11. The statue depicts the former quarterback in his left-handed throwing motion. It was created by sculptor Ben Victor, who works out of Boise.
Victor spent six months shaping the figure in clay before casting it in bronze. He used hand tools to craft details like Moore’s towel. The artist also reviewed feedback from fans on social media during the process. This input led him to redesign the helmet and redo the entire head mold of the statue.
Moore, now the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, attended the event. He told reporters before the unveiling that he did not expect to have a statue. He described the honor as a representation of a fun and special era in Boise State football. Athletic Director Jeremiah Dickey noted that he watched many of Moore’s games during his early career. Dickey said the program owes a lot to Moore for laying the foundation of the team’s identity.
Moore holds the program record for career passing yards with 14,667 and touchdown passes with 142. He finished his four-year tenure with a 50-3 record as a starter. He was the first Boise State player to become a Heisman finalist in 2010. He also led the team to upsets over top-ranked teams, including No. 4 TCU in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl and No. 10 Virginia Tech in 2010.
The unveiling involved a video presentation and a countdown. Workers wheeled the statue onto The Blue hidden under a plastic tarp. When the tarp was removed, the stadium crowd cheered. Moore said he is proud of how the program has evolved under current leadership. He called the current state of Boise State football unique and one-of-a-kind.
The statue joins other tributes to players who helped establish the program’s reputation for character. Moore’s legacy remains tied to the orange 11-yard line hash mark on the field. This mark serves as a reminder of the standards he set for future Broncos.
