The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office released body camera video on October 29, 2026, documenting the fatal shooting of Chau Duncan. The footage was posted to the department's Facebook page, providing a visual account of the officer-involved incident that occurred earlier this month.

Police were dispatched on October 11 after a call reported a woman in a purple sweatsuit pointing a gun at a man. Officers identified the suspect as 34-year-old Duncan. Upon arrival, Duncan was heard shouting for officers to get off her as she walked away from the vehicle. Audio from the scene captures officers repeatedly instructing her to stop and show her hands.

After following Duncan for several minutes, an officer inside a police cruiser exited the vehicle and opened the driver's side door. As other officers on foot moved closer, Duncan fired a shot into the open door. Officers returned fire and struck Duncan, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office stated that Duncan had threatened several individuals the day prior to the shooting. The release of the video includes a warning for viewers about explicit language and the potentially disturbing nature of the footage.

The state attorney's office will now review the incident to assess the legality of the officers' actions. The sheriff's office also plans to conduct its own independent review of the events.
