Nick Mohammed, the 46-year-old British actor and comedian, is currently balancing a growing film schedule with a return to live performance. His career has shifted from early magic acts to leading roles in television, culminating in a recent finalist appearance on The Celebrity Traitors. As he prepares for upcoming commitments, Mohammed reflects on a path that moved from local wedding gigs to international recognition.

Mohammed began performing close-up card tricks at age 16 to pay for college. He developed the character of Mr. Swallow, a magician, while completing a PhD in seismology. After years of refining the act at the Edinburgh Fringe, he expanded it into a full-hour show. He now performs live only as Mr. Swallow, having recently sold out a 1,200-seat venue in New York to an audience primarily composed of Ted Lasso fans.

His screen work began with 2016 films including Bridget Jones's Baby. He later co-starred in the 2025 film Deep Cover alongside Bryce Dallas Howard and Orlando Bloom. His television credits include Fresh Meat, Stath Lets Flats, Inside No. 9, Taskmaster, Slow Horses, and Last One Laughing U.K. His breakthrough role came as Nate Shelley in Ted Lasso, a part that earned him two Emmy nominations. He initially declined the offer to focus on his own series, Intelligence, but accepted after showrunner Bill Lawrence encouraged him to proceed.

Mohammed stated that the gradual nature of his rise helped him manage the transition to global fame. He noted that the industry prepares performers for failure but offers little guidance on handling widespread success. He expressed relief that his major break occurred at age 39 or 40 rather than in his early twenties. His appearance on the 2025 series of The Celebrity Traitors further increased his visibility. The show averaged 11.1 million viewers per episode, marking the largest live audience for a single television program that year.

The finale of the second series of The Celebrity Traitors is scheduled for Friday. Mohammed, who has filmed an episode of Uncloaked, expects substantial future developments from the franchise. He will also assume the role previously held by Claudia Winkleman in The Traitors: Acts of Betrayal at the Gillian Lynne Theatre. Rehearsals for this production, written by John Finnemore, begin in January, with previews set for June. The stage show features a cast of 12 contestants performing five different plays based on their roles as Traitors.

In film and television, Mohammed is starring in Sky's legal thriller War, led by Dominic West and Sienna Miller. The series has been ordered for two seasons. He plays Michael, a solitary and arrogant lawyer. His role expands in the second season, which is already completed. He noted that a scene in which Celia Imrie's character expresses her dislike for his character was improvised. Universal is distributing his upcoming Mr. Swallow special, and he has projects in development with the BBC, Channel 4, and Apple.

Mohammed also hosts this year's Olivier Awards. When asked about his reputation for being kind, he expressed some discomfort with the praise. He described himself as having an ego and argued that ambition and confidence are valuable traits. He credited his wife, a music teacher, for keeping him grounded by reminding him that his professional frustrations are minor compared to other life issues.
