Boise State's Max Cutforth threw three touchdown passes to lift the Broncos past Texas State, 46-45, on Saturday. The freshman entered after starter Maddux Madsen was knocked out of the game during the third quarter.
Madsen could not move the offense before his exit, and his streak of games without an interception ended. Texas State built a comfortable lead after the turnover. Boise State's next possession stalled, and Madsen was knocked out of the game on the following sequence. No timetable for his return has been announced.
Cutforth, a local product, answered with scoring throws on three drives. Texas State failed to convert on fourth down late, giving Boise State the ball. The Broncos ran out the clock to seal the one-point win.
Texas State held Boise State running back Dylan Riley to 86 yards on 25 carries. Freshman Rasean Jones caught passes for 117 yards, including a touchdown. Boise State's pass defense allowed multiple scoring drives, and the running game did not control possession as it had in earlier games.
