Residents across the Treasure Valley will gain one hour of sleep when clocks turn back at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 31. This transition ends Daylight Saving Time for Idaho, a shift that coincides with the Halloween holiday. The change marks the final adjustment to the annual time schedule for the year.

The time change will alter the daily rhythm for workers and residents alike. Individuals who are asleep at 2:00 a.m. will experience an extra hour of rest. Conversely, those working in the service industry or nightlife sectors will find that 2:00 a.m. becomes 1:00 a.m. again, extending their workday by sixty minutes.

Following the clock adjustment, the sunset time in the Boise area will shift to 5:33 p.m. This change reflects the seasonal decline in daylight hours that has been occurring since the peak of summer. Since that peak, the state has lost approximately three minutes of daylight per day, a trend that will continue until the Winter Solstice.

The Winter Solstice is scheduled to occur just a few days before Christmas. Until that point, the days in Boise and surrounding areas will continue to shorten. The earlier sunset will bring darker mornings and earlier evening darkness to the region.

Legislative efforts to alter this practice have been proposed in recent years. During the previous legislative session, a house bill sought to exempt Idaho from the requirement to switch to Daylight Saving Time. The proposal would have aligned the state with Arizona, which does not observe the time change. That bill did not pass during the last session.

The current transition occurs on a specific date: Saturday, October 31, at 2:00 a.m. The state will revert to standard time, ending the period of extended evening daylight that characterized the summer months. This annual event remains a fixed point in the calendar for Idaho residents.
