Bright yellow signs now cover the windows of Big 5 Sporting Goods on Milwaukee Avenue in Boise. The signs announce that everything must go. The store is clearing out its inventory before closing its doors for good.
The location sits near the Boise Town Square Mall. It is directly next to Dick's Sporting Goods. Residents have had time to browse the store since the news first broke. The radio station noted that many shelves were already empty by the time of the announcement.
This is not the first sporting goods store to leave the area recently. Al's Sporting Goods closed its doors earlier in October 2026. That location is on the other side of the block from Big 5. The loss of two major retailers in the same stretch of road marks a shift for the neighborhood.
Big 5 is looking to clear its remaining stock in the coming weeks. The store expects to offer steeper discounts on the smaller amount of inventory left on the floor. Shoppers are encouraged to visit while deals remain available.
Winter is approaching, and the store has gear for the cold season. The radio host suggested looking for new jackets or shoes for children. The store is open for business as it works through the final inventory.
