Utah enters the final five weeks of the 2026 college football season with the most difficult remaining schedule among the six primary contenders for a Big 12 championship berth. The Utes are 7-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play, standing alone at the top of the league standings. Their path forward includes three road games in the next four weeks, a sequence that ESPN Analytics rates as the toughest among the leading teams. The squad must travel to Cincinnati this weekend, host BYU next week, and visit Arizona in mid-November.
Five other teams sit within one game of the league leader. BYU, Texas Tech, Arizona, and Oklahoma State are all 3-1 in conference play, while Houston is 3-2. The Big 12 race remains tight, with multiple teams positioned to make the championship game. The outcome will depend on how these squads handle their remaining nine conference opponents.
Houston holds the easiest remaining schedule according to the analysis. The Cougars are 6-2 overall and have a bye this weekend. They are heavy favorites in their final four games against Cincinnati, Colorado, West Virginia, and Baylor. Houston lost its two conference games by a combined 10 points, holding double-digit leads in both contests before falling short.
Oklahoma State faces a critical test on Nov. 14 against defending champion Texas Tech. The Cowboys are 5-2 overall and have three road games remaining, though they are favored in each. Their only conference loss was by three points at Houston. The matchup in Stillwater could heavily influence the final standings for the second championship spot.
BYU and Texas Tech both have three or four games at home in their remaining slates. BYU plays at home against Arizona State, Baylor, and Cincinnati, with a road trip to Kansas in between. Their Nov. 7 game at Utah is viewed as a pivotal contest for the top of the conference. Texas Tech plays at home against Arizona this weekend and visits Oklahoma State in mid-November, facing two ranked opponents for the first time since September.
Arizona has won five consecutive games and holds a 6-1 record. The Wildcats face Texas Tech this weekend, a game they must win to keep pace, as no team has beaten the Red Raiders in Lubbock since November 2024. Arizona also hosts Utah in mid-November. The team has only one conference loss, coming at BYU in the opener where they led at halftime and had a chance to take a fourth-quarter lead.
Four other teams, including Arizona State, Baylor, Cincinnati, and UCF, are 2-2 in conference. UCF upset then-No. 2 BYU last weekend and is favored in four of its final five games. Cincinnati has the toughest final five games of any team in the league, including home games against Utah and road trips to Houston and BYU. The Bearcats defeated Texas Tech 37-24 last week, demonstrating they can impact the race through tiebreaker scenarios.
