Pat McAfee told a national audience on October 28 that he will never come back to Utah.

The former NFL player made the statement on his YouTube channel and ESPN broadcast. He said he felt unsafe while visiting a university campus in the state.

Students in a video mocked the host, who is known for self-deprecating humor on the air. McAfee said the incident left him more fearful of the location than any other team visit in his career.

He questioned whether the university was amplifying reasons for people to dislike him. "I thought to myself, has anything, like, really scary happened at a college gathering in the state of Utah recently?" he said. "Do we think we should be amplifying reasons for why people hate my guts, as a university?"

The New York Times shared the clip of his remarks. McAfee noted that the shooting of Charlie Kirk occurred recently in Utah. He wondered if anyone else had been harmed while visiting a campus in the Beehive State.

Both the university and ESPN issued apologies to McAfee following the comments. The media outlets expressed regret over the experience.
