Idaho’s median household income rose to $84,234 in 2025, a 1.2% increase over the previous year. The U.S. Census Bureau released the figures as part of the 2025 American Community Survey, which the Idaho Department of Labor shared with local officials. This figure sits just below the national average of $84,780 for the same period.

Earnings vary widely across the state’s major cities. Boise residents reported the highest annual median household income at $92,000. Pocatello residents reported the lowest median income at $67,000. Housing values also showed little movement after inflation adjustments. The median home value in Idaho held steady at approximately $458,000. Coeur d’Alene recorded the highest value at $569,000, while Pocatello had the lowest at $332,000.

Housing affordability remains a pressure point for many Idahoans. The survey found that 45% of renters spent more than 30% of their monthly income on housing, a category the Census Bureau calls cost-burdened. Among homeowners with mortgages, 28% fell into that same category. Both figures are slightly lower than the 48% rate reported for renters in 2024. Idaho’s renter burden rate is nearly identical to the national average of 48%.

Idaho remains one of the youngest states in the nation. The median age of a resident was 37.9 in 2025, ranking the state seventh youngest in the country. Urban areas skews younger, with a median age just under 36. Rural areas skew older, with a median age of 42. The state also has one of the highest percentages of households with children. Thirty-one percent of Idaho households included at least one person under the age of 18, compared to the national average of 28%.

The share of households with children varies by city. Idaho Falls had the highest percentage at 42%. Lewiston had the lowest at 24%. Idaho is tied with Nebraska for the third-highest child dependency rate in the nation at 40.1. That figure is well above the U.S. average of 34.9. The Census Bureau will release additional demographic details in the coming months.
