The average cost of a gallon of regular gas in the United States reached $4.20 on October 30, according to data from AAA. This figure represents a 40 percent increase since the U.S.-led war against Iran began on February 28. The price spike has coincided with President Donald Trump's recent assertions that the primary military objective of the conflict has been achieved.

The conflict has now entered its ninth month with no indication that fighting will cease soon. Trump stated at a campaign rally that the United States obliterated Iran's nuclear enrichment capacity through Operation Midnight Hammer and Operation Epic Fury. He said, "We defeated them militarily, financially and otherwise. And now we are ensuring just one thing: we have to make sure that they never, ever have a nuclear weapon, and we will do that very easily."

Diesel prices have also climbed sharply, averaging more than $6 per gallon. This cost increase directly impacts truckers and farmers who rely on diesel fuel for operations. The elevated prices persist due to continuous threats from Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, which remains a focal point of the ongoing military engagement.

The economic strain is influencing voter sentiment ahead of the midterm elections. Likely voters in key Senate races told pollsters that high prices for food and energy are their top concerns. On October 10, White House correspondent Jon Decker asked the president why he had not declared victory. Trump replied, "Because I have to keep it that way. I don't want to do it in two years. We have to have a guarantee that they won't do it in the future. It's actually a very good question."

Trump has told reporters and supporters that gas prices will drop once the war concludes. He launched the conflict with the specific goal of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Although he has declared that goal met, the financial impact on American consumers continues to grow as the military campaign persists.
