The first ranked matchup of the 2026-27 college basketball season pits the No. 1 Florida Gators against the No. 14 Miami Hurricanes on Monday. The in-state foes will meet for the 71st time in the 2026 Orion180 Tipoff Classic at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
Florida enters the game as a 5.5-point favorite, with the over/under set at 160.5 points. The Gators finished last season 27-8 and won the national title in 2025. They currently sit atop the AP Poll for the second time in program history. Miami went 26-9 in Jai Lucas' first year as head coach and finished last year 24th in the final AP Poll.
The SportsLine Projection Model simulated the matchup 10,000 times to generate betting predictions. The model projects a combined score of 158 points and identifies the Under on the total as its primary pick. In 58% of the simulations, the total score came in below the 160.5 line.
Historical data supports the low-scoring projection. Each of the last eight meetings between these two teams has failed to reach 150 combined points. Their last matchup in November 2025 produced exactly 150 points, which was well under the then-listed total of 171.5. Last season, the Under connected in 67% of Miami games where the Hurricanes were underdogs, and in 60% of Florida regular-season games.
Florida’s defense was the second-best in the SEC last year in points allowed per game. Miami ranked fourth in the ACC in the same metric. The model also indicates that one side of the spread hits in nearly 60% of the simulations, though it does not specify which team holds that advantage in this public summary.
The Gators defeated the Hurricanes last season in a neutral site contest. Florida retains much of the core roster that led them to the 2025 championship. Miami finished its previous campaign with a 26-9 record under its new coaching staff.
The game serves as the season opener for both programs. Florida is the higher-ranked team in the AP Poll, while Miami sits at No. 14. The betting line reflects Florida’s status as the superior team on paper, with the total points line set lower than previous meetings in the series.
