Entergy Mississippi plans to invest more than $2 billion in a new natural gas power plant in Raymond, company executives announced Thursday.
Jeremy Vanderloo, the company’s vice president of business operations and strategy, told residents at a local open house that the project represents the largest economic development effort in Hinds County history. The facility will utilize a Mitsubishi design, which Vanderloo described as a clean and highly efficient system intended to serve the utility’s existing customer base.
The company projects the plant will generate over $1 billion in property taxes during its 30 year operational life. Vanderloo specified that these funds will flow to the City of Raymond, Hinds County, and the Hinds County School District. He emphasized that the investment aims to provide reliable power to the community while delivering substantial long term fiscal benefits to local government.
Construction is set to begin in 2028 and is expected to last roughly five years. The plant is slated to become fully operational in the summer of 2031. This timeline follows the company’s initial announcement to area residents during the open house event held earlier this week.
