Amazon Launches Drone Delivery in Nampa
The service covers a 170-square-mile area and aims to deliver small packages in 30 minutes, marking Idaho's first rollout.

Amazon began flying blue and white drones over Nampa streets on Sunday to deliver small packages to local homes. This marks the first time the company's Amazon Air service has operated in Idaho.
The new program covers a 170-square-mile radius centered on the Nampa Amazon Air facility. Orders placed through the service arrive in as little as 30 minutes. The system handles small parcels and adds to Amazon's existing ground-based truck network.
Residents in the service area reacted to the new arrivals with mixed views. Laura Gonzalez, a Nampa resident, described the sight as neat but also weird. She questioned whether she could trust a non-human carrier to leave her purchases safely at the door.
Stephen White, another neighbor, said he was excited to test the system. He noted that children would likely enjoy watching a drone land in their yard. White said he was comfortable with the technology unless a drone crashed into his house or damaged his truck.
Not all neighbors were enthusiastic about the change. Ashley Roberts said she was not a huge fan of the new service. She argued that the current ground-based delivery trucks already arrive quickly enough for her needs.
Roberts expressed concern that companies often introduce new technology without asking residents if they want it or considering the potential repercussions. She felt the rollout happened before the community had a say in the matter.
Amazon currently operates this drone delivery service in Phoenix, Detroit, Chicago, and Dallas. The company lists Boise as the next city on its expansion list for the program.
